"Ferien" - "Holidays"

Eigentlich habe ich Ferien, aber das heißt bei meinem Studiengang leider gar nichts. Genaugenommen war ich ja schon seit einem Jahr nicht mehr an der Uni (Studiengebühren zahle ich natürlich weiterhin), sondern habe sauteuren Privatunterricht genommen (leider die Regel bei Jura) und da sind jetzt Ferien, damit die Dozenten sich von meiner Kohle Drinks auf tropischen Inseln kaufen können. Wahrscheinlich mit Schirmchen. Könnte ich auch gebrauchen.

Ich lerne derweil. 

Das Mützchen besteht aus Resten von der Schaputze. Eigentlich wollte ich eins mit Ohrklappen, habs dann aber versemmelt.

The summer holidays have started, but that doesn't mean a thing for us poor law students. Actually I haven't been to university for more than a year (have to pay the fees nevertheless), but took some expensive private classes (which is absolutely common for law students but almost unthinkable for all the other students at university). The classes are now on halt for the summer, so that our teachers can spend our money on drinks on tropical islands. Probably even decorated with cocktail umbrellas. Oh well. I do need one of those, I guess.

Well, I'm learning. 

I used leftovers from the octophood to make this hat. I wanted one with earflaps but screwed up.

Tunesisches Häkeln - Tunisian Crochet

Diese Woche lief alles schief. 

Ich wollte eine ganz besondere Kapuze häkeln, da mein dreidimensionales Vorstellungsvermögen aber total mangelhaft ist, musste ich sie insgesamt dreimal aufribbeln. Dann habe ich es vorerst ganz gelassen und mit dem Garn angefangen, eine Hülle für eine Wärmflasche im Zopfmuster zu machen. Aber auch das ist irgendwie noch nicht so ganz optimal, weil sie zu groß geworden ist. Dann wollte ich eigentlich kleine Blütenketten mit Stickgarn häkeln, hatte aber als ich Freitag in der Stadt war mein Geld vergessen und konnte keins kaufen.

Währenddessen hat meine Freundin wahrhaft göttliche Socken gestrickt. Ich bin schon etwas neidisch, vor allem, weil ich mit dem Stricken nicht so recht klarkomme. 

Jedenfalls habe ich diese Woche nur dieses kleine Stück vorzuweisen. Beim Tunesischen Häkeln benutzt man nur eine Nadel (die auch aussieht wie eine Häkelnadel, also mit Haken), aber man nimmt die Maschen auf die Nadel auf (wie beim Stricken).  Der hergestellte Stoff ist ziemlich fest und hat ein besonderes Karomuster, das sich gut besticken lässt. Die Technik ist in Deutschland eher unbekannt, ich musste die spezielle Nadel in Großbritannien bestellen, weil ich sie hier im Laden nicht bekommen konnte (obwohl sie von Prym hier hergestellt wird).

This week was a mess. 

I wanted to crochet a hood with a very special look, but I ended up frogging it again and again, because my spatial imagination sucks. I scrapped the project for the time being and started to make a cover for a hot water bottle using a pattern that includes cables. But I'm not happy with that either, I think I got to large. 

Originally, I wanted to create necklaces and bracelets with tiny crocheted flowers made of embroidery yarn this weekend. But I couldn't buy any yarn in the city on friday because I had forgotten my purse. 

Meanwhile, a friend of mine knitted some super awesome socks. I'm kind of envious, since I am a horrible knitter. 

So, this little piece is everything I can show you this week. Tunisian Crochet uses only one hook (like crochet) but the loops are pulled up onto the hook (like knitting). The fabric is quite strong and has a special look consisting of tiny little squares, which makes it ideal to be cross-stitched on. This technique is not that popular in Germany. I couldn't find the special hook required in stores here, so I had to order it from Great Britain, even though it was produced here by the company Prym.

What the shell?

Ich wollte schon länger mal etwas mit einem Muschelmuster machen und da ich noch so viele verschiedene halbe Garnknäuel rumliegen hatte, habe ich einen farbenfrohen Schal gemacht. Das ging sogar ganz schnell, lediglich das Einweben der Fadenenden war mühsam.

I always wanted to try a shell stitch pattern. So I used up several old skeins to make this colorful scarf. Weaving in the ends was quite a nuisance but otherwise it progressed quite quickly.

Fertig! - Finally!

Endlich ist das Erdbeercape fertig!

Gar nicht so schlecht dafür, dass ich kein Muster hatte, sondern einfach so drauflosgehäkelt habe. Leider ist die Wolle nicht so toll für größere Stücke geeignet (ich benutze sie meist auch nur für Amigurumi), weil sie so dünn und faserig ist. Wahrscheinlich hätte ich auch eine etwas kleinere Häkelnadelnummer wählen sollen, aber dann hätte das Garn nicht gereicht, und es sollte ja genau aufgehen. Vielleicht mache ich nochmal so ein Cape, dann aber mit dickerem Garn, das dürfte robuster sein. Dann wird es vielleicht eine Himbeere. Ich kann mir sogar ganz gut vorstellen, dazu dann Popcorn-Maschen zu benutzen.

I think it worked out quite nicely especially because I didn't use a pattern. I just started crocheting along.

As I already mentioned, I think that the yarn is not that great for making bigger projects, since it's so thin and that makes the whole project rather fragile. That's why normally, I use that yarn for amigurumi only. I probably should have chosen a smaller hook, too. But then I would have had to buy more yarn and that would have been against the spirit of using up leftovers!

I might crochet another one, using different yarn. Maybe a raspberry. I guess the popcorn stitch might be a good choice for that purpose.
